R7's Best Picture Style Settings for General Use & Lowest Noise at ISO6400
2 months ago
Hi everyone,
I know this is probably a cliché topic to discuss as everyone has their own preferences when it comes to the outlook of their jpegs coming straight from their cameras, and for those who shoot only raw, this may not be even a subject of interest, but I'm just curious about what you have on your R7s for the lowest noise images out-of-camera at higher ISOs under low light.
I shoot both raw and jpegs, but always try to aim for the best jpeg quality output straight from the camera so that no or little post processing (on raw) is required.
ISO3200 seems to be the limit for ISO when it comes to acceptable noise levels with the default Standard picture style settings, but I have reasonably good results on ISO6400 with picture style settings Standard or Auto 2,1,4,0,0,0 and both of which seem to strike a good balance between level of detail, sharpness and noise under low light conditions.
I also have both ALO and HTP turned off (as these generate more shadow noise at higher ISOs, unless of course, I need them in some situations), all "lens aberration correction" options are turned on (including digital lens optimizer), and high iso noise reduction set to "standard".
Please let me know your thoughts on this, and if you are using settings which give you great results for noise/details balance under low lighting conditions at ISO6400 (if you ever use this).
And in case you do try out the settings above, do let me know if they make a difference. APSC sensor cameras like the R7 do not do very well in the ISO department especially beyond 3200, and I am just trying to optimize it so that ISO6400 jpegs become more useable (coming straight from the camera).
Cheers!
