RX100 VII stuck with lens open

Re: What were you shooting?

I think what's happening is that the camera is running out of batteries, then the camera gets stuck with the lens extended out. On my older Canon S120, when the battery got close to draining, the lens would auto-retract.

I've also had situations where the lens just gets stuck, the camera seems to have shut down, and the only way to get the lens to respond is for me to take the battery out and put it back in.

Any ideas how long the battery should last if the camera's accidentally left on?

When I am shooting in burst mode with my RX100VI, it takes time for all the images to be written to the card. The lens stays open until all the images are saved from the buffer memory onto the card.

Is your back screen still on after you hit the on/off button? is it showing anything?

Does it make any noise when the lens is extending? Grinding or motor noises?

If the camera is truly off and the lens is out, you may have a lemon. Only option then is to return it.
