Re: RP Won't Turn off -- Possible Solution

Same problem here. Bought it 2nd hand 2 months ago. Issue was there from the beginning but I did not realise until now. Even if my battery often drained, I just thought it was some new smart "energy saving setting" from Canon that I should fix later in the settings.

Camera is great and works perfectly, other than it can not be turned off..

From reading all the posts about this issue my theory is that this camera was not made as ruggedly for moist and dust like a mirror version DSLR or the more robust EOS R version.

The camera may have been exposed to a humid environment - causing the motherboard print to oxidice/corrode, and fail shortcutting the most vulnerable functions, apparently the connection to the on/off button.

It seems there is only one path to fix this issue - replacing motherboard.
It is not under warranty >3 years, but before taking that (400 USD repair) route I will try to:

1. Investigate more, and make sure that there is no "easy fix" (I have already seen the https://puercaeli.tistory.com/674), at least I know I am not going to try and disassemble the camera myself so that solution seems too far away for me.

2. Use it with my workaround for this issue which is - to not close the battery cap completely after use, which is the only way other than taking the battery out that will shut the power off definitely. I will put some piece of cardboard or a cloth in between when transporting the camera in its bag to not put too much pressure on the gapped open cap/door.

I hope that proceeding like this with the knowing that there are probably some shortcut going on on the main board, is ok and that the camera will not damage itself furthermore from using it. I will of course currently monitor if the issue gets worse.

My biggest wish would be some kind of announcement of recall from Canon, replacing this (assumably) faulty and (seems) not very durable motherboard but probably too much to hope for. Unless a very high percentage of RP units appear to fail over the next time.
