Adding a Second Body - R6ii or R7?
Hi folks,
I'm 75% landscape shooter, 25% wildlife and birds. I have an RP which serves me very well for most of my needs. As you'd expect, it's more of a challenge when shooting wildlife with it due to the limited AF modes. That said, I do okay, and I have a good collection of both long and wide RF lenses, plus a couple of adapted EF lenses left.
I've been wanting to add a second body to give me better AF, a larger battery, and better ergonomics (the RP is hard to use with gloves in the winter; no joy stick).
I have been leaning towards the R6ii as it hits all the right marks for me, and has a better dynamic range too which is nice for lifting shadows.
Then I started to think about the R7 as it hits all my key points, and gives me so much more reach and pixels than I'd get with the R6. The AF isn't quite as good as the R6ii, but it's light years ahead of the RP.
My current thinking is to keep the RP for landscape work (great low light, high ISO performance), and add the R7 for the added reach - with my current lens selection, I'd have almost 1000mm effective reach possible - highly appealing!
What I'd lose over the R6ii is newer & faster AF, better low light/high ISO performance, much less rolling shutter, and it's better EVF.
I've seen these questions often enough to know the answer is "it depends on what you shoot and what you value", but I'd still like to hear from folks and their experiences.
I guess the bottom line is this: Is it worth giving up the reach of the R7 to gain all the extra advantages the R6ii gives? It's a hard decision, as I likely won't purchase another body for many years.
Thanks!
Ron.
P.S. An R5 isn't in my budget, and I'd like to avoid teleconverters. Also I rarely shoot video.
