I have a Canon 70 - 300 Nano that is sharp, lightweight, and not very expensive in today's terms.

Look for Nano on the lens.

I agree, get the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM (with the little LCD) It's one of canons better (perhaps even the best) non L tele zooms. And with very fast focusing because of the use of NANO USM

@Fat Nerd:

An other option would be the Canon RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM also very quick (NANO USM also) and a perfect companion for traveling light. And does deliver good quality pictures

And with the 24-240 you have a native RF mount lens covering 24-240mm.

All the telezoom lenses you mention are low budget lenses and older models. they may not deliver the best qualty compaired to newer lenses available

Agree with the above 2 posters.  The EF 70-300 II NanoUSM is a great telephoto lens new for under $600.  AF is very fast and accurate.  Better than the 55-250 STM (which is a good lens)
