l Just opened the Camera Connect app on my phone and it tells me that there is a new firmware and an option to download it. When the download is finished, it transfers it to the camera and tells me to continue the process on the camera. The camera is now displaying the update menu and I just have to select “update”. Cool! It can’t be much easier than that.
And yes, the startup with BT enabled is much quicker.
I hate to be "That Guy", but honestly... starting a firmware update over a phone's Bluetooth/WiFi connection seems like the worst possible solution, IMO.
The update is done from the memory card. The phone simply put the data on to it.
It's great.
Maybe they have an air-tight file checking system which ensures there are no copying errors (from the servers to the phone AND the phone to the camera), but that convenience just seems unnecessary to me. Updating firmware is not really a 100% safe thing to do. There is always a risk of corruption and failure, in which case, the camera would need to be flashed by Canon or the board replaced.
Possibly but it's the same risk as from a card I think.
IMO, saving the file to the card media and inserting it into the camera just seems faster and safer (not including PC boot up time). IMO, this just seems like a solution in search of a problem. I am an IT guy and it is relatively rare to see a problem with firmware updates, but my experience will keep me from ever trying this.
It's the same but the app tells me when a new versions is available, does the work for me.
