what would upset me is if Canon locked out my 3rd party odins -- like they did with SL3.

That's a risk I'm afraid.

yes, I'm worried about this long run

I am a bit envious of your relatively small A7IV + the best relatively small speedy 50 f1.2 on the planet to shoot without flash.

f/1.2 isn't a replacement for lights.

true, sprinkling in light to create catch lights in the eyes and light the face with 3d look vs flat look

The lens weights 778g, which is light for a 50mm f/1.2, but it's a bit more than your standard zoom, so..... I don't think it's your cup of tea.

well it sounds wonderful if I were still working weddings, the best 50 f1.2 on the planet and the unique tamy 35 - 150 f2/f2.8 would be hard to beat

But I've been burned over the years on third party lenses as bodies update.

The 50 GM is native.

from what I've seen, looks like a generational keeper

Other Manufacturers might tighten down as well.

The formula for me is about the photographer, cameras and lenses, lighting, processing, with lots of power in the smallest form factor that I can stomach.

You know what you're doing, and you're doing fine.

true, life changes, and so does gear needs

YMMV

Best wishes Storm! Be safe my friend!
