sorry, yeah I had the number of vertical markings (including the middle box) in my head and forgot about the actual numbers.

In my experience, with subject and eye detection turned off, it works more like how you explained. With it turned on, It helps with targeting a subject thru the EVF visually, but then it starts looking for anything after that over the entire frame, regardless of wide, zone or even single point. I can focus on the middle of the bird in single point with detection on and it still starts focusing on the eyes way outside of that point. Especially with several subjects in the frame. It starts bouncing all over the place. Eye detection does work better with one eye prioritized, left or right, rather than Auto.

With detection off, I can manually move the focus point or zone around (or pan with) to stay focused on a single subject better. I've found subject/eye detection to be basically useless with multiple subjects in the frame and have to turn it off.

I do still need to test the Fringer adapter FW.

Prioritizing an eye is only available for human face detection.  Multiple subjects can be a problem or it can work quite well.  This is why I have the a button to toggle off subject detection so that I can point to the subject I want.
