But customers never learn. They will happily get the R10, think about lenses later on, locking themselves up in the third never complete Canon aps-c platform.

Well you’ll have to plop me in that “happily stupid/naive” category then!

I’ve recently been mentoring a budding photographer (high school student) and they wanted to upgrade the older Nikon DSLR they’ve been using for Photojournalism at school. I immediately recommended the Canon R10 + RF 18-150 kit as being the best fit for them in regard to its capabilities, cost, size, and future-proofing! (They spent their savings on it). Plus they now get a “teacher” who’s intimately familiar with the system.

Note: that last part about obsolescence is the only reason I didn’t recommend the M6ii to this youngster.

I also get to share a lens or two with them (RF 35/1.8 IS for starters, EF-S 55-250 IS in spring), so they’ll have a pretty good idea what direction they’ll want to head from here.

Personally, I really wouldn’t mind owning an R10 myself. It’s comfortable with great ergo and superb AF (DIGIC X). And I already own all the lenses I need for it! Hmmm 🤔

R2

Sounds too complicated ?

Mac and I are focusing in on using 1 fantastic prime projected onto 32mp into PL6 ?

^for you and me, this is the most pivotal lens/sensor combo in 20 years

I sold all my less than 32mp stuff.

for you and me, we want more mpxl's, and 24 mpxl's is meh, like the 18 mpxl's was years ago

at first glance it appears Canon improved the R10's sensor performance to R7 levels

https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm#Canon%20EOS%20R10,Canon%20EOS%20R7

but they are cooking the RAWS as the downward triangles show to get the numbers up - and of course the cropping power is less

I have tried R5 files with PL and WOW !

more, more, more, we want more mpxl's

These new pixels are super duper !

with super duper lenses that can handle the resolution

Have to have more and more mp for my PL !

our super duper m32 f1.4 and 100 L with great resolution on high mpxl are the first step, and PL is the second step to the magic!

Less than 32mp is just not modern ?

for us, yes

I'm not buying into less

but that is just us - a budding jr pj will do fine with R2's R10 solution and tutelage.

I would not choose a R10 over a M6II for my money making product photography assembly line setup.

Or a R5 for that matter.

For quickie product photography I pick the M6II. The ability to control and play with perspective and crop and still have enough pixels to work with ? And I need to use a zoom lens to do that stuff quickly so a smartphone will not work.

And none of my other stuff was working for me like the M6II so I sold it all.

Now the car show ? M6II brings home the colors and detail all in focus !

But the price has a lot to do with it too.

I have decided my backup camera and I am a big believer in a backup camera must be the same as my main camera so there is NO confusion with the buttons.

I would need 2 R10 cameras or 2 R7 cameras or 2 R5 cameras. That is my problem.

Having 2 cameras and only 2 cameras that are alike is a new photographic adventure that is working out.

If I find I need a FF I really could rent the stuff.

R10 is for the birds ?
