I'm returning to my photography hobby after a several years break. Back in the day I used x-t2 and tried to get the photos I took geotagged so that I could have easier time finding it in my archive. But honestly it was a hassle - the app on the phone periodically stopped sending the data to camera, you had to start the whole "connect to camera wifi" process once again and it could be 5-6 times during the 2 hour photoshoot.

Is current gen cameras like x-t5 any better? Do you still need to use your phone to transmit gps to camera or maybe there is now some accessory like Canon/Nikon had for DSLRs (hotshoe-mounted box with gps receiver) What is the current best practices for geotagging your photos?

I had an X-S10 and now I upgraded it to an X-H2S and geotagging works fine. The phone app will require to leave location service set to ALWAYS not just to when the app is open, that is the only caveat.
