I have an R6 and a couple of RF lenses. I can change ISO on the camera itself using the MFn button or the mode dial, and both these allow setting of Auto ISO. I have the control ring on the lenses set to control ISO, but that method does not allow me to set Auto, only actual ISO numbers. Anyone got any ideas why this happens?

You can only turn it to auto ISO using the control ring once the metering timer has gone off. I know - VERY annoying! The only other alternative without having to remove your eye from the viewfinder is to go to in Fv mode, use the top thumb wheel to scroll to ISO, then press the trash can button to instantly set ISO to auto. Or else again, wait for the metering timer to end if you're using the control ring or a dial.

Actually, I think anything which turns off the metering gives you access to auto ISO. For example, pressing the Q button twice or Menu button twice has the effect of cancelling the metering timer, and gives you access to auto ISO again via the dials without waiting for the metering to time out. That's on the R5, but I expect the R6 to be the same.

I like this trick of canceling the metering timer. However, one still needs to turn the dial all the way to get back to auto ISO. I like how in Fv mode you can select the ISO and then press the trash can button to set to auto ISO instantly. But I still don't like the rest of Fv mode!

Yes it's a pain to have to rotate the dial all the way back to get back into Auto. Agreed about Fv mode - there are some benefits but overall I wouldn't want to use it.

Yes I find this very unintuitive and quite confusing and kludgy. I always set the metering timer to longer than the default, so it's even more annoying.

On the R5, there is a setting to control whether the camera returns to Auto when metering stops, or to keep the current manual setting. Maybe the R6 has it too? It's a menu item - something like 'Auto ISO after metering'.

Yes, I'm well aware of that setting on menu page C. Fn1 on the R6. However, I don't always want my ISO to revert to auto. There are times when I like it to stay where I've manually set it.

I feel the same - neither option is what I want all the time. Sometimes you want one, sometimes the other!

Personally, I'd prefer just to have a button which switches between Auto and manual.

Agreed!! This would be the best option, especially if it was an option in the "Customize buttons" menus.

Absolutely. While overall I think the R5 (and no doubt the R6) is a great camera, I do feel like there are a number of UI aspects which Canon need to work on. Access to Auto ISO is one. Access to exposure bracketing is another. I could probably list a few more.
