I see that the Canon RF 15-35mm 2.8 is on sale. I'm wondering if that's cause a Mark II is coming out. I'd like to get this lens to pair with a R6 Mark II. Also considering Sony A7IV with the 16-35 2.8.

I was considering this lens, even rented it for a weekend. Resulted in the mixed bag of feelings from that lens.

It is sharp, zoom range is great, AF and IS work flawlessly...

But the compromises on optical design sacrified to make the lens small and light resulting in brutal vignetting and field curvature went too far to my taste considering the still huge price of that lens.

I am also not a fan of plastic build for this price.

I went for Sigma 14-24/2.8 instead. It is overally optically better, much sturdier built for much lower price. Clear decision.

For an UWA lens OIS is not needed for my usage and majority of my shots are at <20mm so the lack range to 35mm doesn not bother me. Sigma is also more suitable for astro.

It is big and heavy but it is logical result of the superior optical design. Unfortunately there is no free lunch here.
