Is the sigma 150-600 c as shatp as the s version?

Sport version is sharper. But it's waaay heavier (6 lbs vs 4 lbs).

Do you have experience with both lenses? Some reviewers say the Sports version is sharper, but others seem to say they are about the same and a few even claim their copy of the Contemporary is sharper than the Sports version.

I know several birders with one or the other lens, and they’re all in agreement, but perhaps those around the web have indeed gotten different quality copies. I’ve only shot the “C” enough to get a feel for it (was too heavy to suit me).

I just got the 'C' version and it's pretty darn sharp... I'd have to say sharper than the EF-S 55-250 IS STM.

Definitely.

I was able to get near-pixel level sharpness on the M6ii using DxO PL6, and even got respectable results with the Rexley 1.5x Kenko SHQ teleconverter wide open at 600mm.

I spent the big bucks and went with the top-shelf Canon 100-400ii (and 1.4x iii) instead (on the M6ii and 7D2).

Now I’m shooting with the RF 100-500 + 1.4x on the R5 and it’s truly superlative. But waaay more $$$ yet. And lighter too, like my wallet!

The 150-600 'C' lens was even 'larger' than my impression of it from the reviews.... you're right it's a beast of a lens and needs a very large camera bag. But I found it wasn't as heavy as I expected, and I was able to use it hand-held with excellent results - see the post at the link below:

I actually wrote my post/reply in that thread before seeing your post here, so you got my truly unfiltered thoughts there. Didn’t mean to rain so hard on your parade, but I always calls ‘em as I sees ‘em anyway.

Like I mentioned in that thread, I think you’ll benefit from removing the TC (even for long distances). Give it a whirl.

Happy shooting!

How do you keep from dropping that stuff when dancing after stepping on a snake while chasing birds down by the river ?

The Hillsborough river is where I see the most birds but it is easier to get good shots of birds with a cropped camera on a good sunny day at the beach. With no snakes ?

Beach birds will get close to you too because they are not so afraid of humans and like handouts.

The big ones will stroll right past you.
