It honestly baffles me that Canon didn't just keep building out the M line. It's probably about 2-3 bodies and lenses away from being a complete support system. A flagship body with IBIS + the 32MP sensor + integrated EVF and a vlogger body (both with 10 bit internal video). Then a 15-xx 2.8 IS STM zoom, maybe a 9-22 UWA zoom and a new fast prime in the 22-25mm range. That's all they needed IMO. The whole thing makes no sense.
those lenses are what we needed, along with the great f1.4's we have
I'd add, like sony made, a lens going to at least 350 mm
but Canon is driving those wanting these lenses to FF - that is their sense, not ours
I think a flagship body with IBIS + the 32MP sensor + integrated EVF would be getting on for the price and size of an R7.
Dont see why that's an issue...
A 15-XXmm f/2.8 is likely to be over the EF-M 61mm diameter size limit, not to mention that it would be the most expensive EF-M lens by quite a long way.
Diameter size limit? What diameter exactly? Plus I'm sure there are EF lenses well over that limit that adapt just fine.
And again I don't see high price being an issue either, particularly if they don't make it an L lens. Every other crop MILC system (besides RF-S) has 2.8 zooms.
The 22mm f/2 would undercut a fast prime in the 22-25mm range
It's an old lens in need of an update IMO.
just as the 11-22mm would undercut a 9-22 UWA zoom.
As is the 11-22. A 9-22 with more speed wouldn't step on its toes either.... it would be a more premium option.
I'd like a 7.5-15mm though (again, probably too big for the template, and probably too specialised for RF-S), but what I really miss is a fast 62mm, which would be wonderful if they could get it to f/1.4 inside the EF-M template.
Not sure if Sigma has the 56 for EF-M... I know that's not the same thing but it's at least worth considering.
IMO it's better for Canon to cannibalize EF-M internally to keep it relevant and competitive rather than basically throw away a perfectly good system a handful of pieces away from "completion". As a support system EF-M doesn't need constant cutting edge updates....... they could make the handful of bodies and lenses I've mentioned and sunset development on it, just making the same stuff forever as the market demands it. What Canon has done instead is akin to deciding to bake a cake, but leaving out an egg, maybe half the sugar, and then only baking it for half the required time. It's silly to me.
