I understand the pain. I was hoping for at least one more M body and a couple more lenses, but it seems we are at the end of the road. I've searched around and from what I can tell, there's nothing out there with the size/weight/image quality/affordability of M.

For photography I will have to keep using the m6ii for a while because there seems to be nothing else like it. But for video, the cameras coming out now are light years ahead of it. IBIS is an absolute game-changer for video, not just an incremental improvement.

I've looked at RF and RF-S and I just can't figure out how it makes sense for me. Some of the RF bodies are compelling but the RF lens lineup is abysmal. All the good lenses are huge and cost over $2k. There's no third party support and I don't see Canon making a bunch of cheap 1.4 primes. The result is I would certainly end up taking worse photographs using RF-S than I get with the M6ii in nearly every situation.

The R6ii is compelling despite its size but again the full frame RF lenses are all either not that great or they cost over $2k and are really big and really heavy. The 24-105 F4 is the only compelling lens I could potentially someday afford.

Fuji, Sony, and Panasonic are all look like they would be better future paths for me than RF.

you make good points though it is a matter of timing and what you shoot

you also have access to a huge array of EF lenses

for example, I love my 100 L on m6II

I have the RF 24-105 F4L you mentioned, and it is great

What lenses do you have and what do you like to shoot?

I shoot a lot of local bands playing small venues and bars, also lots of pictures of my dogs, and some landscapes when I'm hiking. The M I used to do a lot of travel photography but the pandemic and now a baby have put a damper on that. The M series is awesome for all those things as I can fit a few lenses and a body in a tiny sling that is easy to carry and doesn't attract much attention at a bar or brewery where I'm usually shooting these bands. I don't want to carry a backpack around all night and I prefer to be relatively low key with my camera gear, blend in a little bit.

But with the new baby I am likely to turn into one of those guys taking tons of pictures and videos of my kid from now on so IBIS and good autofocus are going to be important once she starts running around.

My favorite lenses I have are the Sigma 56mm, Canon 22mm F2, Canon EF 35mm F2 IS, and a manual focus Rokinon fisheye lens. The 56mm I use for the band photography--it's great for low light and I love the portrait focal length for that work. The 22mm I use for landscapes and when I want to be super portable, the IS on the 35mm helps with video, and some might say fisheyes are too niche or cliche but I don't care because I have a lot of fun with that lens. I've also got the 55-250 which gets a lot of use with my dogs.

ahh, some good stuff

I have the EF 35 F2 IS and 55-250 stm also

for video and landscape, consider also getting the 11-22 with the IS and wider view

for indoor shots of your daughter consider getting 32 f1.4 (great kid lens indoors) and 16 f1.4 (great party lens indoors) along with shooting RAW and dxo Photolab 6 for class leading NR

for macro and long portraits, consider getting the 100L

on the RF front I have the RF 24-105 F4L and RF 85 F2 IS on RP.  These two FF lenses I highly recommend.  The 100L comes into play can be used on both systems for normal and long-range (160 fov on m6II) portraits.  I didn't get the 56 f1.4 because the 85 F2 IS has IS and allows me to drag the shutter.

just be patient is my recommendation -- there will be another small Canon FF in the near term.  Build your glass in the interim.  You already have the very good 35 F2 IS, you could get the 100L.  I only paid $899 for my RF 24-105 L three years ago.

my other advice is to learn OCF in the Rembrandt lighting orientation - I have odins and mag mods -see below

clients have paid for all my gear

best wishes
