Thanks for the info. This is good to know! I intend to use the R6II for sports with my EF lenses. I'm excited about using the ES because I've seen the reviews. The rolling shutter seems to be well controlled. Sure I would expect some pics with a bit of distortion when shooting tennis (i.e. bent or elongated racquets and or egg shaped balls). But I expect overall it will be tolerable.

I shoot sports with R5. If I were you I would still seriously consider R5 over R6mkII even today. These extra megapixels surely come handy when cropping.

I am fairly new to shooting sports, only started in August 2022.

This is a sample gallery I shot with R5 and RF 100-400 lens: http://sc82730339.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/

Nice gallery.

Yes I know the advantages of cropping but for the sports I do (i.e. indoor volleyball and outdoor tennis) the R6II will suffice. I have the lenses covered thus I don't need to crop that much. Moreover, I couldn't afford an R5 + vertical grip and I am not interested in buying used. Also, I don't sell my pictures.

I'm in the same boat. I only shoot sports that my kids are playing, which right now is nothing. May have hockey and volleyball next year. My 70-200 is long enough for these, and I can add the 1.4x Extender when needed. I don't mind cropping these shots down even to roughly 8MP from the R6II. My sports photos get shared via texts or social media with friends and family almost exclusively, and 8MP is still enough for a really nice 12x18 inch print or an acceptable 20x30 inch poster should I capture that shot of a lifetime.

Similar experience here.

I know it sounds blasphemous, but I doubt I'll ever use the 20 or 40 FPS setting for sports when I do shoot it. The thought of culling that many shots after a game makes my head hurt lol. 12FPS will be more than plenty for me.

The 40 fps. really appeals to me assuming I get there with my EF lenses. If not 20 fps. will suffice. I should be able to capture a tennis backswing to the actual hit to the follow through and maybe a fist pump at the end. I'll be confident that I got all of these shots so I can put the camera down and really enjoy watching the tennis match.

20 fps is plenty for tennis but you may not get there with EF lenses.

I intend to use 40fps with the R6MKII----are you saying that I won't even get 20 fps for EF lenses? Anyway, it shouldn't be hard to try out at the camera store. I'll bring my EF lenses then. Hope I can borrow a fast Sandisk UHS-II card because I don't have one. I'll buy the SD cards when I buy the camera + vertical grip.

How much FPS you will get may depend on the lens.
