R5 w/ Sigma 150-600. First outing at Bosque Del Apache
4

I got the R5 for Christmas and was hoping my Sigma 150-600 would play nice with it.  I had heard of focus pulsing problems with this camera/ lens combo.  Duade Paton did a video describing settings for both the Camera and the lens that were meant to address the problem.

I set my lens and the R5 to the settings he suggested and headed to Bosque Del Apache yesterday.  To my delight, this lens behaved very nicely with my R5.  I did not experience any significant focus pulsing issues, even when I was shooting geese at or near the minimum focus distance (which is where the reported focus issues were reported to be the worst).  I had the AF-On button set to do single point focus, and the * button I could engage eye tracking.  The eye tracking worked mainly well with this lens as I had it set up.

As much as I'd like to get the RF 100-500, I feel this current setup is quite up to the task, so will probably just keep this Sigma for the time being.  If it works an focuses well enough, what's not to like?  I'm sure the RF lens would focus "faster" but I wasn't experiencing any lags or other issues that made me feel I have to run out and get another lens.  I've had this sigma for a few years and it was the best $900 I ever spent.

Here's an example - an American Kestrel shot at 600mm, then cropped in quite a bit.  (Note: sky replacement done in post)
