R5 - I'm loving the reach of 45 megapixels !

I'm still just learning the basics of my new R5 and RF100-500 lens. After being a Nikon wildlife shooter for 12 years and working with 20-24 megapixel sensors, I'm freaking out at the reach and cropping capabilities of the R5. And the lens is out of this world!

The Snowy Owls have returned to Ottawa in numbers and we're very excited that the predictions have proven wrong about a bad year for Snowies. First thing this morning I saw and photographed 3 of these beauties in less than an hour - 1 male and 2 young females.

The only problem is that it's been raining for over a week and the fields are a muddy mess so we can't get on them. So all shooting has to be done from the road which is when reach really matters. Here are a few practice images and a couple of practice videos all in poor light and at distances from 280-550 meters. Not great image quality by any means, but progress is happening. Colour me happy!

P.S. All the video footage is done using the R5's awesome, high-bitrate 4K120 frames per second video format, which is one of the main reasons I bought this camera.

Cheers,
Rudy
