Speaking of noise with the R7, I've read a whole bunch of posts about this, and I have hardly seen mention of DXO Pure Raw converter ? This has been absolutely miraculous for me with my R5, and now it works with the R7 too.

D@mn miraculous all right! Although I do prefer the DxO Photolab implementation due to Deep Prime's controls.

Heck, you have to convert your cRAW shots with something anyway.

I'm a full-RAW kind of guy. Crop(ping) takes too much of a hit in IQ already. I make it up where I can. Agree with your premise though.

Why not use DXO Pure Raw and remove 90-100% of the noise right from step one ? Sometimes I might need a light touch of Topaz for that last few % of noise, or just a tiny bit of sharpness, but often not, even with ISO 12800 shots.

Especially since so many R7 shooters will be using those slow(er) zooms. DxO really extends the usefulness of this kit!

BTW, I was strongly considering an R7 for my birding backup camera.... and was even fixing to rent it. But not having, and probably never having a grip available, is probably a deal breaker for me.

The grip itself is nice and deep. I think there will be a number of grip extenders that might swing you back toward the R7 at some point.

Does DxO Photolab have the same noise capability as DXO Pure Raw? Do both of them work with all raw files, not just Craw?

DXO PL6 with Deep Prime XD has the best NR currently. Simply amazing. R7 and M6II eminently usable at ISO 25,600.
