The Canon 17-55 2.8 is a great lens, and people have described it as an unofficial L lens. I've owned mine for over a decade, and it's been my most used lens by far. Used it extensively for travel, portrait and video work.

There are not so many choices. I have the R5 & R7 with the: Sigma 18-50f2.8 (lightest), RF15-35f2.8L (heavy), RF24-70f2.8L, RF70-200f2.8L, RF 24-105, & RF 24-240. None quite right for " travel, portrait and video work."

I use the Sigma for traveling. Also have the Canon EF 10-18 & RF-S 18-150 for R7 traveling.

Thanks for that I'll give it a watch. I guess that's the downside of an APS C sensor

The APS-C sensors can give great results when there is enough light and offer more reach at the expense of FOV at the wide end.

I am waiting for a sensational RF-S 10-18L IS and a RF-S 15-55f2.8L IS someday.   Meanwhile I will get by with the light weight and size of the adapted EF-S 10-18 and Sigma 18-50f2.8.   There is nothing else for the R7 in these ranges that are small and light that I have found.    It would nice to have a light weight RF-S 35f1.2L  prime also but high quality RF35f1.2L would be more important to Canon's business.
