Well I've had my R7 with the 100-400mm RF lens for six weeks or so now. It takes some great bird images. I have used it for bif and in dark woodlands in winter in the UK. So mainly high ISO in poor light. The results are encouraging. The main points are that the lens camera combination is giving sharper images than the Nikon D500 with 150/600mm  Sigma C cropped to same size. Obviously miles lighter. So no buyer remorse but ........ the tricky AF situations shouldn't be so complicated and requiring so many variables. I've read all of this thread and watched several of the referred to videos. Pretty much everybody is saying something different. Experienced bird photographers know how difficult it is but know the best of the few options available to achieve that. On my D500 I get good tracking of BIF and it is spot on for simple situations, harder of course in front of reeds and branches but not bad. The R7 was bigged up for AF but to me the court is still out on this. Throw in comments in the video that the mechanical shutter gets only 10 sharp shots in a hundred with IS and a 1/200th of a sec and you feel like a refund is in order! But on the other hand I have found that so far with the lower ES setting I don't see any of this "rolling shutter" with BIF so far and it is great. But at the moment I am taking big bursts and when i put the card in the computer I am hoping rather than expecting for a decent shot - and I am getting some but the keeper rate is lower than my D500 but better when I get them!
