The name change is potentially confusing, but I think it was done because "Continuous AF" is the term used by other manufacturers for what Canon calls Servo (formerly AI Servo) AF, which was even more confusing!
That's what I also thought - and the video I saw must have been for one of the other R cameras. I can see where this behaviour may be advantageous but most of the time I find it annoying
I banged my head on the wall with that one too.
Somehow I managed to mess up my settings because of that. Somehow I thought it a good idea to enable that setting (if it wasn't enabled by default, don't care to check honestly because there are too many settings to redo if I reset my camera) - and enabled back button focusing which I duly didn't really remember/notice when I picked up the camera hours later after the weather cleared up a bit from the rain storm - the camera still halfheartedly focused afterwards, only the keeper rate dropped significantly.
