a pro tool for sure

though reach is the limiter

Sometimes I have to weigh the options and make some compromises

That's the name of the game alright! We have to fit the right set of features to our needs (and budget of course)!

I'm not spending $8,000 CAD before taxes on an R3. Can't justify it. R5 is up there in price too and is about to be bested by the R5 II.

R5 is definitely up there too! I'd love to be able to go with two R5ii's this summer.

Because no matter what camera you buy today will be bested by more features or newer technology 2+ years down the road.

That's OK. For some folks, those features won't mean diddly. For others they'll be absolute necessities!

The technology is moving very quickly right now, and there are actually a number of simultaneous paradigm shifts that we need to carefully negotiate at this point in time.

Which is why I held onto my 40D for 7+ years and the 7D MK2 for equally as long. I'll still use it when I really need the reach. These cameras can last a long time nowadays.

They delivered what you needed them to deliver. You're actually the smart one methinks!

I value low-light shooting as a top priority which is why I didn't consider the R5. I know noise-reduction in post will help to mitigiate the noise issue but the R6 and R6 II have a headstart in this area.

Well actually the R5, R6, and R6ii are right there neck and neck and neck. Check the PDR comparison at Photons to Photos...

R5, R6, R6ii Photographic Dynamic Range

I'm not afraid to shoot at ISO 102,000 if I had to. I will avoid using that ISO if I can.

Noise reduction is (IMHO) indeed the great equalizer! And it just keeps getting better and better! Heck, only 2 years ago I would have scoffed at using an f/10 lens as my main wildlife lens! Now I don't think twice about it.

It’s funny to think that it wasn’t too long ago many lenses were designed to be their best at F8
