R7 & EF24-105f4L Mk II with Viltrox Speedbooster (27-118 equiv. FF FL)

I tried this 24-105f4 on my R7 using the Viltrox Speedbooster EF-RF mount device.

I shot some test shots of my wall charts at 24 & 105mm on the lens to see roughly how it performs. At 24mm the R7 EXIF produces declares it to be a "17mm FL & f2 lens" and at 105mm on the lens the EXIF say "74mm FL and f2 ". The bokeh of the lens combo remains f4 equivalent but the image on the sensor is one stop brighter.

This is normal for the speedbooster device and helps by one stop shooting in lower light.

At 24mm the images were very sharp in center though the filed of view was the same as FF 27mm lens. I was impressed that the image was also fairly sharp in the corner.

At 50mm (56mm equiv) the images were very sharp in center though the filed of view was the same as FF mm lens. At this middle FL the image was also fairly sharp in the corner. Very similar to the 24mm results described above.

At 105mm the images were very sharp in center though the filed of view was the same as FF 118mm lens. At this long 105mm end the image not as sharp (softer) in the corner.

While the speedbooster does not make the bokeh like a full frame sensor it does a pretty good job of increasing the available light to the APS-C sensor by one stop. I am not encourage shoot more images with this combination of the speed boosted EF 24-105mk II.

The standard kit lens for the R7 is the RF-S 18-150 mmf3.5-6.3 IS lens and it weights 0.7 lbs. and this EF speed booster combination weights 2.1 lbs. but offers the equivalent of a 18-74mmf2.8 (no IS) lens.

I also own a Sigma EF-S mount 18-50f2.8 (image stabilized) which weighs 1.5 lbs and it's corners are a softer at 50mm than the equivalent speed boosted EF24-105f4mkII.

So I need to try all three lenses for the R7 for some real world shooting cases. It has been raining here recently.

I am thinking that for an extra pound over my EF-S lenses the speed boosted EF 24-105f4mkii vs the Sigma 18-50f2.8 is sharper at 50mm/f2.8 in corners , and offers 50-105mmf2.8 coverage but no image stabilization.

The RF-S 18-150 is lighter, but one or two more stops darker than the other two. All three lenses appear to be useful with different strengths and weaknesses depending on the use case.
