I think most of us are suggesting a once/24hr (or similar) authentication, not shot-by-shot. facial recognition is probably a step too far anyway, but not because of waist-level shooting.

When once/24hr (or similar) authentication required? Are it will popup suddenly during photography or playback? Seem like a bit annoying.

If integrate finger print sensor into shutter button, camera can turn on without on-off switch.

  • When camera turn off, half pressed shutter with valid fingers (authentication less than 0.1 second) will auto turn on camera.
  • Since finger sensor integrate into shutter button, theft didn't notice it.
  • After camera turn on, no require scan finger print again.

There is always tension between security and convenience.

Agree. Security + some degree of convenience very difficult to apply.

I believe the “once/day” system to be the most reasonable — particularly if it will only “pop up” for authentication on the next power up.

If theft sold camera to other (or shop), the security authentication only popup after theft get the money...

Shop (or used gear buyer) may be didn't know the model has authentication feature, if they never check all menu.

Then, another consumer bought the used camera from shop...

It requires only software — your idea needs a fingerprint sensor built-in to the shutter button. Cost and complexity. My solution can be implemented in firmware.

Again, if you’re shooting an event that requires uninterrupted access, disable the feature for the duration.

If need frequently disable/enable, consumer may forget "lock" their camera especially there hasn't LED lights/mark tell whether camera has lock.
