I’ve mentioned this a number of times already but I would like a new focus ring.

I dislike the current one for street in particular, when you generally want to zone focus, ie fix focus in one place and leave it there. As it is, the ring is super-easy to drag when adjusting the aperture ring, and there’s no way of easily gauging the focal distance by feel.

One solution would be a Leica-style tabbed ring with proper marked positions, instead of a “soft” endlessly-rotating ring.

But I would prefer a ring with clicked positions for:

- AF

- two or three customisable fixed focal distances (similar to Ricoh’s snap focus)

- infinity

- and maybe even an “auto hyperfocal” setting which would set the hyperfocal distance in response to the aperture setting

It’s not a new idea, it used to be common in film cameras including many Olympus compacts, and it worked extremely well for casual/everyday/street use.
