I can also confirm that my old Godox TT685C (not TT685iiC) misbehaves in exactly the way described using a new EOS R7.

If the Auto-focus assist beam fires the camera seems to hang waiting for the flash operation to complete. Powering off both the camera and the flash and turning the camera on again (sometimes twice) seems to return the camera to normal operation.

I don't seem to be able to use C.Fn "AF" (auto-focus) to disable the assist beam - it continues firing when this is set to disable.

But I can confirm that setting the camera to "Servo" auto-focus rather than one-shot seems to do the trick. There is no auto-focus assist beam and (coincidentally?) no problem (other than the fact that you may not actually want servo auto focus).

If this is the only way I can continue to use by flash that will have to do until Godox come up with a fix (mine has the most up-to-date firmware which, for the TT685c, is version 3.4).

What’s “One Shot” autofocus?    I haven’t used it in years!

This is actually a really good reason to switch to Back Button Focus (with Servo).  I use Canon, Godox, Yongnuo, and Nissin flashes without any of those errors.
