Re: G5x Mark II new owner tips please
Indeed a good choice. I own and like that camera since its early days.
And shooting raw and using DxO simply gives great results.
You may consider to add a small Gorilla Pod to our bag.
I disabled the option to release the shutter by tapping on the back screen. For me, it is not helpful. Also play a bit around with Touch&Drag on the rear screen to find out if you like it; I have it disabled.
Make use of folders. E.g. for every new day during your trip.
A spare battery was just mentioned above. Indeed a should-have.
Never let the battery be completely empty. If it is foreseeable that you don't use the camera for some longer time (for me that is more than 1-2 weeks) try to avoid having the battery full. 1/2 to 2/3 loaded should be fine.
ND filter on 'auto' works perfect unless you need low shutter speed at bright light.
Continuous AF is not important for me.
I never had any card error. Nevertheless on vacation a have a least to cards with me which I shuffle - new day, new people, new location/attraction etc.. Keep the unused away from your bag. It's not for card error - it's for not loosing all shots on only one card.
Disable all Wifi things unless you really need it.
If there might occur situations where handheld shooting in low light is required, you should try and test how long shutter speed you can do. The G5X2 has a really good IS which supports low ISO in such situations.
Mode select dial. Make usefull setting to the 3 options. E.g. panorama for scene, HDR for filter and <burst, servo-AF, high shutter speed> on 'C'ustom.
For any video stuff, please ask somebody else ...
Pay attention to the mechanic curtain in from of the lens. It is reliable, however it does not look to be too solid.
Have fun! You will enjoy tha camera.
