Everything considered, get the latest K-1 full frame. You'll want big prints for portraits or landscape. Best ergonomics for big hands by far. Tons of lenses, all very good to excellent.

i wouldn't worry about Pentax market share; your customers certainly don't. They love a pro showing up with a big DSLR. And flash plus relectors for portrait lighting. Income sweet spot? Industrial -- see the factory, the product process, the happy workers. Corporations pay well and it is fun work. Worst? Weddings!

Even if Pentax goes under, you'll have 20 years before used K-1 cameras or Pentax lenses become unavalable. And the cameras don't break. So I'd say stick with Pentax, and have a great time in your second career!

I agree about the impression a DSLR makes. The bigger it is, the more non-photographers seem to be impressed by it. Thanks for the tip on industrial, I hadn't considered that.

I have very little interest in ever trying weddings. Maybe as a second shooter. That level of commotion and pressure isn't what I would choose out of the possible market segments I could pursue. More power to those that do it, and do it well, but I don't see myself going in that direction most likely.
