Do all macro lenses change effective aperture when focusing extremely close?

Some focus wide open then stop down to take the shot.

Others focus at the set aperture (for example the Laowa 25mm which doesn't "talk" to the camera at all).

Of course, the closer you have to be to your subject, the less light is going to illuminate the subject hence the need for elaborate lighting set-ups in the studio and flash w/diffusers in the field.

Indeed, we do cast a shadow upon the subject by moving in closer - not to be confused with my question about macro lenses however.  Thanks for your reply.  I bet that Laowa 25mm doesn't give much working distance.

Light pollution does not only erase our view of the stars. Scientific evidence suggests that artificial light at night has negative and deadly effects on wildlife, including amphibians, birds, insects, and mammals. ~ Bin Chen
