FWIW, Nikon has always done "white balance preconditioning" which stretches their red and blue channels out while leaving the green alone.

Yes, there was a short period where I enjoyed the fact that Canon hadn't taken this approach, but it didn't last long, and now all Canon raws have integer math artifacts, and unnecessarily clip away some raw highlights with >1.0x scaling of raw values.
