Noise Reduction (NR) at low ISO settings has become more common with certain brands in recent years. NR does result is some loss of detail but I have no truly objective way of measuring that. I'm working on it.

I haven't looked across enough cameras to be sure, but it seems to me that what might be happening with the R5 is something like a filter being applied across the CFA in near-blacks as if the CFA wasn't there, which removes all hints of fine chroma in the raw file in the deep shadows. Of course, they may apply WB factors during the filtering, otherwise there would be a color cast on the deep shadows after WB.

It's impossible to know the intent. All I can report on is what effect is seen in the data.
