Not sure where you are, but Olympus and Panasonic are still making MFT cameras for sale in the US. It's possible that they have ceased sales in some countries, but definitely not the US. I'm guessing the sales guy was simply trying to steer you to the lines his store carries.

That said, if I didn't already have an investment in MFT lenses, I'd probably get a Panasonic S5 with its kit 20-60mm lens. The price (in the US) is excellent: $1,500. It can shoot 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 all day, and reviewers praise the camera and the lens.

If you want to stay in the MFT format, the Panasonic G9 is $1,000 and can likewise shoot 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 all day long. Get it with Panasonic's 12-60MM f2.8-4 lens if you don't already have the lens you want.

Those are my thoughts.
