I haven't read all the prior threads so I apologize if this has been covered. I re-watched the video. Did anyone notice that the presenter said that their first camera would be a compact film camera and then they would develop a high end compact SLR.

Yes.

The first camera mentioned wasn't described as a SLR. Does anyone think that it may be more of a point and shoot? He talks about young users. The Fuji instant cameras are popular, fun to bring to parties or other social events without needing to know much about the technical end of photography. I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts. Thanks.

The first camera that comes to mind would be a film GR.

GR1s’ are selling for £400 on eBay. A new one might not be the low end camera they were talking about.  If I heard the video correctly they said they were thinking of four cameras, a low end P&S, a high end P&S, a low end SLR and a high end, fully mechanical SLR.

Of course everyone on DPR is most interested in the fully mechanical SLR, but looking at how things like the half frame Kodak reloadable are selling, the entry level is likely to be the best seller.
