Very nice.

I wish that I could ID sparrows (if that is one).

That’s a male House Sparrow.

Thanks.

I'm not a birder, although I keep feeders in my front yard. Didn't think to check using my rarely-used Sibley.

They are also known as an English sparrow. An invasive non-native pest bird in my area. They aggressively drive out native colorful birds. Where they are, you will most likely see few other bird species. At least not many.

Shooting them on sight is recommended by naturalists. Along with Starlings.

Though that was a good job shooting them with the RF 100-500

What part of the planet are you in?

Starling are n free fall decline at the moment and many are doing lots to protect them. Let’s hope they don’t go the way of the passenger pigeon.

Ours are black short tailed with silver/gold feather tips.  European Starlings in middle USA.  Aggressive and lots of them.

These birds in this video who are fighting flicker birds for the flicker bird's nest.  Look up on YouTube "Teds Holdover" "Native Woodpeckers vs. Invasive Starlings".  Start at 1:00 in to see Starlings being bullies.  Warning, video of hunting the birds later in the video.

He gets a lot of grief for hunting cute invasive species but he likes chickadees, Cardinals, blue bellies, woodpeckers, etc.  He is actually knowledgable about native birds and hunts birds that drive out natives.  When he is done the native birds come back to the feeders.  Nice.

I have a starling in my barn that I chase out each night with a rake.  I want him to roost elsewhere.  I could catch him and mail him to you if you guys are short.

"He's dead, Jim! You grab his tri-corder. I'll get his wallet."
