They really are going to follow Leica.

leica is from USD5500....

developing a film camera in 2023-24 is like reinventing the wheel

No quite the right analogy wheels are all around us, and don't need to be invented again. It's more like putting a VHS machine into production, I mean people still have VHS tapes don't they ? I'm sure some people love the technology ... never mind that DVD or Blu-Ray is "better"

I don't think so. Pentax digital cameras are the closest to the film cameras from all other camera makers. For example, thy might be able to reuse the entire mirror box (including the shutter mechanism) and the optical viewfinder from the K-1 digital camera. What they need to "reinvent" is the camera back with the film transport mechanism. And they have all the blueprints for this, don't they.

This is only place where people like me can find some comfort. If they are have a K1-iii mirror box / shutter / OVF and can just wrap a film transport around for not much effort that's great. Except that a lot of things are driven from the back panel, so things like turning remote release/bracketing/different drive speeds on/off or selecting an AF point will need to be done differently. The Z1/PZ1 did have some of these abilities so did the MZ-S so it's a solved problem .

The issue is really that the effort to do this will take away from other things we want.
