R6 Mkii Autofocus point shape/color?

I have had the R6 Mkii now for almost a week and getting to know the camera.

This is my first MILC, coming from the 7D Mkii so it is a bit of a change.

Anyways, while getting acquainted with the camera and playing with all the different options and modes, I somehow I ran across the AF point display in the viewfinder (and on the LCD) turning to what looks like a small open orange circle. Similar to two parenthesis like so ... (  )

This is unlike any of the standard documented icons:

I was able to use the multi-controller to move the AF point around and place it at will. I started flipping through the Advanced User Guide trying to figure out what I had just stumbled on (I really hate the fact that they don't include a physical paper copy in the package anymore).

I couldn't find anything in the manual, so I went about continuing to experiment with other settings etc. At some point the AF point display went back to the white square (1-point AF, AF Area), and now I have no idea what I did to get it to change.

Has anyone seen this or know why or what conditions cause this behavior?

BTW, I do know that orange represents the autofocus system has not achieved focus.

The parenthesis (  ) icon and the fact that I can't recreate the condition is what has me baffled.
