Generally, if you are in Av mode, when you set the aperture, the camera will select a shutter speed roughly twice your focal length on a zoom lens, which should be enough to handle any camera shake, especially with a stationary subject.

This might happen if you have auto ISO enabled but if you select a fixed ISO then the shutter speed selected by the camera's metering will be the one that gets the exposure correct and this can sometimes be too slow for a hand held camera.
