Don't waste your money on the DO version of the EF 70-300mm. The smaller size looks interesting, but that is where the positives end. Weight wise, it is heavier than the both the original and Mark II versions of the standard EF 70-300mm. The biggest problem is the lens is pretty awful optically. Both regular versions of the EF 70-300mm as well as the L version are noticeably better. If you are already looking at the 55-250mm STM and Tamron 100-400mm, there is probably not much use for a 70-300mm right in the middle. You could just use the 55-250mm STM and crop your 24MP to 16.7MP to get the slightly longer field of view.

I will back the call on not getting the 70-300mm DO version, I bought one and sent it straight back, it was awful. Awful handling and image quality, did not even come close to the 55-250mm STM, which in my opinion is the best bang for buck lens you could ever buy. Add in the Larry Rexley modified 1.5x teleconverter and you have a nice lightweight decent reach lens. I now use in on a R7 and it is excellent, but without the teleconverter which does not work so nicely with the extra MP of the R7

Cheers

The 55-250mm stm is not really cheap in my country. It's about $300 for new. I figured add on a bit more and probably get the EF 70-300mm DO IS USM $430, EF 70-300 IS ii USM $500 or even the Tamron 100-400mm $610.
