It is my understanding that for full functionality of the IBIS function you are referring to, a faster communications connection is required than is provided with the EF mount. Using an EF to RF adapter, you don't gain that extra speed. Rather, you restrict the camera to the EF protocol, which is slower at peak speed.

That makes sense regarding any hypothetical future or recent EF designs, but for existing EF lenses, there would be nothing to communicate, because there is no information present in the lens about stability; the lens' IS unit just reacts to motion in real time, AFAIK. I would find it hard to imagine that old EF lenses were recording motion data and making note of what help IBIS might bring.

Having said that, I wish Canon provided an option to turn IBIS off when IS is on with EF lenses.

Amen.

So John, you're saying the EF lens with IS is a "stand-alone machine," right? It "neutralizes" movements on its own, based on the motion it detects from the camera it is attached to, correct? And the RF IBIS can send a message to this stand-alone lens, to further "dance" with it. And Canon is saying that's either risky or they're too lazy / greedy to do, because the premium is into selling more RF lenses, not because it is technically not feasible or executable.

On paper Canon is saying that dance is already happening, but EF is it a worse dancing partner per se. It's just older, from whom they can make lens money.

Geez. Reminds me of Amazon and Facebook.
