Can the GP-EP2 work off-camera if you use a hotshoe extender cable?

It works on my R5 with a more than 10 year old OC-E3 cable:

Fascinating. Although it probably has only limited use. Thinking of landscape photography, with a tripod or handheld, this dangling attachment will feel quite awkward. Starting the Camera Connect app seems to be less of a hassle. But if it doesn't work, what would you do...

I use the hot shoe myself and I trust the GP-E2 more than my than smartphone blue tooth connection. Others may be different.

I would think you would use the USB cord when you have a video cage and you would attached to that cage.

I've also switched to GP-E2, that I have from "old times". Right now it's more reliable than smartphone via BT, but you have to remember to install and power-on the module...

I really miss the compass functionality, really don't understand why Canon is cutting such functonalities from R series.
