I also have the Oly 40-150 2.8 and overall it's similar IQ wise to the RF 70-200. The only downside I've seen to the Oly lens is the background blur can be busy at times. If you're not getting good results with that lens it's either a bad copy or something else is wrong.
The lens is excellent. No problems. In fact it is a pleasure to use.
The problems I'm facing might have to do with m43 sensor, at or above 6400 ISO. That's the reason I am continuing my APSC options.
I have a G9 and the AF isn't very good for moving subjects. If you're trying to shoot anything that is moving with a Panasonic m43 camera you'll probably get poor results. The 40-150 is great but really needs an Oly EM1 or OM1 camera to get decent AF performance.
If I am finally satisfied with m43 sensor performance, my second body may be an OM-1. Jury is still out.
Also an R7 w 70-200 should have better AF than any m43 setup you can get. If you're shooting anything that moves quickly the R7 w 70-200 is the way to go IMHO.
I am sure of that based on all reviews and YT videos I have seen.
Thanks for your response.
If you shoot at ISO 6400 and above often you're probably going to be disappointed with m43 sensor performance. The OM-1 really isn't any sort of significant increase in IQ vs earlier m43 20MP sensors.
Really sounds like a FF camera might more what you want. Don't get hung up on counting MP.
My D7200 does well in this situation. So, I am satisfied with APSC performance. While the D7200 + D810 combination is working well, the only reason I am leaning to ML is to reduce gear size.
If I go with FF, the lenses will be huge again.
Think about this. Get a R6 II and the 70-200. Up to 200mm it's going to better than the R7. If you need a tighter FOV just crop. Sensors size is just as important as MP. At higher ISO's the 33MP of the R7 is really useless.
That's good to know.
I'd bet an APSC crop from any FF R camera is every bit as good or better than the R7 when shooting at 6400 ISO.
If this is the way to go, then an A7RIV/V with Tamron 70-180 will be the lightest setup with lot of room for cropping.
Edit: Z7 II with that Tamron lens adapted might also do the trick
The ideal solution for you is a R5 if you can afford but.
Definitely cannot
