Thanks for your response and I will try mode 3 when i go back to Green Cay Nature Center.

What is your experience with the two cameras (R5 and the R7) using the Canon RF 100-500 L I have the R and it is glued to my 24-105 I haven't even tried it on the 100-500 yet.

Hi ezz,

My 'birding experience' really comes down to walks through our local woods, where any birds willing to pose get snapped, or else zoos. (We don't do specific birding trips as such).

I have an R5 and Karen has only just got her R7 (to replace her 7DII - and complement our Sony RX10 IV), so we are still in the process of getting it set-up. I do most of the tweaking - Karen is a much finer photographer than me, but I'm better at the techie/ processing stuff.

Consequently, with only 2-3 shortish sessions using the R7, I'm reluctant to draw any firm conclusions, other than to say both cameras are superb and great fun to use. In terms of AF I can see why other owners of both models have mixed views over which one is best - they are both very fast to acquire the eye/ subject and reassuringly sticky when tracking.

Your R7 and RF 100-500 are a wonderful combination for birding.

(Before I got my R5 I had the R and also paired it with the RF 24-105L - an excellent set-up).

Hello Matey (R5 image)...

Focus Points - R7/ R5...

R7 with EF 100-400L II (left)/ R5 with RF 100-500L (right)...

These are all awesome shots. Thanks for comparing these two lenses. I have both and I thought they were both very good and you further convince me of that. I have not seen side by comparisons of the same subject before. Thank you for doing this.

Hi RDM5546,

Cheers - much appreciated!  Pleased to hear you found it useful...

Phil
