There's a lot of hype about medium format, as if it were in some way a step change from smaller formats and some kind of target for Sigma to aim for.

Not sure why. The image quality from my GFX50s is great, but it is only marginally better than from my A7Rii.  Most of the time you can't see a difference.

I've read plenty of claims it's night and day different but it really isn't. It's more like shooting full frame with a few  extra MP @ISO 160 rather than ISO100.  Quite a subtle difference indeed.

Not sure where all the hype comes from. It might be the undersized microlenses which give a crispy aliased look. Or it might just be the uniformly excellent lenses. Whatever it is, Sigma should forge their own path, not pretend to be MF on the cheap.
