… Exactly. The FF venture is a great waste of time and capital. No one can tell the difference in a FF image vs an APC. FF is a microscopic advantage at much greater expense to the consumer for basically no reason.

You assume the primary purpose for developing the sensor is to sell to consumers. That might not be its primary use case. What if the primary use case is to use for testing their lenses? The CEO said they do use the technology for that purpose. If that is true, and the  3-layer sensor development is an integral part of lens production and design, then producing these quirky cameras is really a gift to the users--a byproduct of lens development. Since it is a private company, we cannot know for certain.
