Ok, I will begin with apologies if this is “old” - but input is appreciated…
I am an amateur shooter who enjoys photography for the pleasure of myself, friends and family. That being said I also enjoy pushing my personal limits and I am always trying to capture what I envision photographs to be (a concept) prior to taking on on any particular outing (from the photography perspective).
Over the past few years I have accumulated the “common assortment” of 12 or so - “L” primes and zooms that suit my particular shooting style and preferences - with a weighted average toward shooting primes in varying situations which are mostly landscapes, “live action” events, random (and I hope slightly artistic) street photography - as well as the obligatory family photos. I am an “all manual” photographer — and I have literally worn out the buttons on the back of my canon 6D, which is the driver behind my upgrade question(s).
Needless to say it is time for me to upgrade, mostly because of the mechanical failure of the buttons in the back of the 6D… and step in to the realm of a more modern platform.
That being said - I am seriously considering “pulling the trigger” on the R6MKII… the things that I find attractive are 1) ergonomics 2) fps 3) the modern “eco-system” of features which include on chip stabilization, auto focus features, the viewfinder features (especially the “exposure preview” which I find quite surprising) and 4) the ease of transition from the 6D controls to the R6MKII (just as I did from the 5D-7D- and to a lesser extent to the 6D).
A couple of negatives that I see are 1) possibly the battery life 2) the need for an “adaptor” for my EF lenses 3) the need to upgrade and transition my workflow to a newer version of LightRoom.
My ultimate questions would be - for others who have transitioned from other Canon platforms to the R6MKII - were any of your considerations similar? Am I missing things that I should be considering? Would any of you care to share your opinion and comments having gone through the same (or similar) transition?
I have done lots of reading, taken photos with a friends camera with my lenses and have heard the opinion of the sales folks at my local camera shop… but I wish to broaden my exposure of opinions in this move to the audience of this forum.
Any and all comments are most welcome and appreciated.
