Architectural Elements with OM Lenses
3
Travis Butler, a regular in the Adapted Lens forum, kindly scored me some Olympus OM lenses, the G.Zuiko 28/3.5, F.Zuiko 50/1.8, G.Zuiko 50/1.4, and E.Zuiko 135/3.5. (He also sent me a Vivitar Series 1 70-210 made by Kiron, but that tale is for another time.) These lenses' journey from Kansas to Mexico City was a long one — Fedex to San Diego, carried across the border by a friend’s daughter, and then brought from Ensenada by another friend — and I finally got to use them today.
Great, but as a parent of two adolescents, I’m not the owner of my own time. Most of my day was spent at a community center watching over my son at a chess tournament, so my subjects were limited. Furthermore, when I started shooting, a police office came over to talk to me, and we ended up agreeing that I would photograph the building and not people, restricting me further.
But from my experience, I can tell that I’m going to like these. Yeah, you can make the single-coated 50s flare spectacularly when you want to (and sometimes when you don’t), and, yeah, the 28 like most of its ilk has peculiar bokeh, but these are fun lenses, and I think I’m going to use them a lot.
Regards,
Alan
