What? Did I just read again, that another X-T5 user reports false focus box confirmation in this new improved Fuji auto focus system? What is going on here?

If you refer to my post, then no, since I am not (yet at least) an X-T5 user. I was talking about diffraction, with APS-C 40 MP @ f/8, forgot to say that key word. Diffraction negatively affects the level of detail in an image, be it otherwise in focus. That's my understanding at least and one of the factors that make me hesitate to upgrade to the X-T5 for my mostly landscape photography.

I think that diffraction starting point is related to sensor size and not its resolution, but could be wrong. Personally I haven't experienced with the XT5 any worse IQ due to f8 yet...

It's pixel pitch (which will usually affect the the smaller and more densely packed APS-C sensor sooner than FF (but not always). It's important to understand that, while the effects of diffraction will affect the 40MP sensor at wider apertures than the 24/26MP sensor, the relative effect will be one of limiting resolution. not reducing it. The 40MP sensor will never have less resolution than the old one, but it may not be able to take full advantage of its resolution at those smaller diffraction limited apertures. That said, even at those smaller apertures and with older lower resolution lenses, there will be a lot more image data for the processor to work with that should result in significantly fewer X-Trans demosaicing errors which will benefit every lens at every aperture.

A good explanation of diffraction here...
