It's remotely conceivable that it hasn't been commented on here before, of course

Nice! Well, I hope that if there is another significant delay of the FFF they will go ahead and make another SD Quattro, but in L mount, and with a new processor, so it will work faster. I guess they'll have to put an IR blocking filter right on.the sensor too. It could be the first new L mount camera that sells for under $1,000. I'm guessing they'd have to make some software changes to the focusing system, so it can work with all the L mount lenses, but they've obviously made their fp L work with L mount lenses, so it would be fairky simple to port that programming over to the software/firmware that makes the SD Quattro work, presumably.
I wonder how long it would take to do all that. Oh, and I guess the power switch will need to be moved too.
Are you under the impression that Sigma has a stock of Quattro sensors lying around unused ?
Don
No, but I can't imagine it would take Dongbu in Korea very long to make another five or ten thousand Quattro sensors. Sigma would have to order a bunch of parts, no doubt, but they are out of SD series cameras right now, right? I think they could certainly sell them in L mount over the next few of years. I'm sure they'd sell faster than the ones in SA mount did, and those sold out in just a few years. Who knows? Maybe they'd sell them all out in just one year, if Sigma uses a faster processor. They already have the processing of Quattro images worked out to the point of perfection, so there won't be the same noise issues with the first few cameras sold. Frankly, I think it would be a good idea . . . and remember they would be the least expensive L mount cameras available brand new.
