Coming from the dead Samsung NX system I really miss having a 16mm pancake. It was my favorite lens. The EF-M 22mm is just a bit too narrow for me, so I end up mostly using the kit zoom but it is bigger and slower, of course than a pancake prime. In the end It doesn’t matter as I’m in on a dead system again! But no plans to move this time. I just picked up 2 M200 kits on the $299 fire sale. I’ll be selling my M5 as I find the focus speed and accuracy to be frustrating.

Compared to Samsung NX, Canon is missing a lot more than just a 16mm pancake:

  • 10mm f/3.5 fisheye
  • 16mm f/2.4 pancake
  • 30mm f/2.0 pancake
  • 45mm f/1.8
  • 60mm f/2.5 macro
  • 85mm f/1.4
  • 16-50mm f/2.0-2.8
  • 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3
  • 50-150mm f/2.8

I still wish Samsung had continued with the NX system.  Samsung killed it right when it was starting to look really, really good.  It felt like Samsung could have had a winner on their hands if they had only held out for one more year.
